INSIGHTS Kids

INSIGHTS works!

In the heart of every child is a desire to be cherished and understood. INSIGHTS Intervention envisions a world where every child is recognized as a unique individual and supported in reaching his or her optimal social, emotional, and academic development. Our mission is to assist educators, parents, and other caregivers to use responsive and effective strategies that match each child’s temperament.

INSIGHTS Intervention provides evidence-based services that foster the social, emotional, and behavioral development of children.  We provide multifaceted services that teach educators, clinicians, and parents how to use temperament-based strategies to enhance the relationships they have with children.

How it Works

NEW INSIGHTS helps children (and adults) understand their own temperament and the temperaments of others.

With the help of puppets, children’s empathy is enhanced by learning that while certain situations may be easy for some individuals, they are more challenging for others depending on their temperament. Children also learn how to better resolve daily dilemmas.

Programs are also available for educators and parents. In their respective programs, adults learn effective strategies that match a child’s particular temperament. Adults also learn strategies to enhance their own social and emotional skills.

INSIGHTS reduces disruptive behavior, improves attention skills, and promotes academic success!

Core Principles of INSIGHTS

Gregory the Grumpy

01

Children are born with temperaments that influence their perceptions and reactions to the world around them.

02

Every child desires to be understood and cherished.

03

Temperament does not easily change.

04

Children succeed when there is a goodness of fit between the child’s temperament and their environment.

05

Children can be taught to regulate their emotional, attentional, and behavioral tendencies in temperamentally-challenging situations.

06

Temperament-based strategies help strengthen relationships among children and their caregivers and peers.

Benefits of INSIGHTS

In addition to improving classroom behavior and academic achievement, teachers and parents gain a rich understanding of children’s temperament and their own temperament. This insight allows them to tailor their responses accordingly and help advance children’s learning and development.

Teachers

INSIGHTS strengthens teachers’ sense of efficacy and improves classroom quality. The intervention helps teachers provide emotional support to students by fostering a more positive classroom climate, and increasing their sensitivity to students’ needs and perspectives.

Parents

Parents learn individualized strategies to help their children gain more empathy and enhance their self-regulation. It also improves parents relationships with their children. INSIGHTS is effective for shy children, enhancing their critical thinking, increasing their classroom engagement, and improving their math skills.

Children

Children learn to enhance their empathy skills, appreciate the temperament of peers, family members, and teachers, and employ problem-solving techniques when they encounter daily dilemmas. INSIGHTS increases attention during class time, lessens disruptive behavior, and increases reading and math scores.

High-Maintenance

Children whose temperaments are high-maintenance are emotionally reactive, which means they usually react strongly and negatively to stress or change. They often seem moody. They are low in task persistence and have difficulty finishing tasks. They also demonstrate high levels of movement and wiggle frequently.

Industrious

Industrious children demonstrate both high task persistence and low motor activity, which enables them to get things done. They take pleasure in their accomplishments. They are also low in negative reactivity, which means they are pleasant most of the time.

Shy & Cautious

Children with cautious and shy temperaments are often shy and slow to warm up. They are low in approach, which means their first reaction is to withdraw from new or stressful situations. They also demonstrate high negative reactivity and will let you know when they are not pleased with a situation.

Social & Eager to Try

Social children are eager to meet new people. They are high in approach, often driven by a need to be with people and to try new experiences. Their temperaments are low in negative reactivity and withdrawal, which means they are usually pleasant most of the time.
