About Sandee McClowry, PhD, RN, FAAN
International expert in child temperament, developer of INSIGHTS into Children’s Temperament (INSIGHTS) – an evidence-based social learning intervention, educational consultant, parenting expert, and ghost writer for puppets.
In 2011, Sandee McClowry founded INSIGHTS Intervention LLC to disseminate INSIGHTS to schools, parents, and clinicians and to provide direct services to children. Dr. McClowry is delighted to bring INSIGHTS to different communities and cultures and to advance the mission of INSIGHTS which is to foster the social, emotional, and behavioral development of children. INSIGHTS works! The intervention improves children’s behavior and reading and math skills and it enhances teachers’ classroom management and parenting skills.
Dr. McClowry is a sought-after speaker who has addressed local, national and international conferences and has written for a variety of audiences including children, consumers, clinicians, and researchers. She is the author of Temperament-Based Elementary Classroom Management and Your Child’s Unique Temperament: INSIGHTS and Strategies for Responsive Parenting.
Dr. McClowry is Professor Emerita from the Counseling Psychology Program and the Teaching & Learning Department at New York University. She previously taught at Yale University. After developing INSIGHTS, she was the principal investigator of the first three randomized clinical trials that tested its efficacy with funding from the Institute of Education Sciences and the National Institutes of Health. She is currently co-investigator on a replication randomized clinical trial in rural Nebraska and on a long-term efficacy study both funded by the Institute of Education Sciences. In 2013-14, she was a Fulbright Scholar in Jamaica where she set up the infrastructure to bring INSIGHTS to the island. Dr. McClowry received her doctorate in family nursing theory from the University of California, San Francisco.
